Wondering why you would choose to camp this Autumn? If you’re an avid camper that loves nothing more than campfires, daytime adventures and waking up in the great outdoors, then Combs Valley Campsite is the perfect place for you.

Now you may be wondering why we’re telling you this now when the nights are getting darker, the weather is getting colder and you’ve just packed your tent away in the loft. Well, you might want to unpack it and go on an autumn adventure and we’re going to tell you why. Here are the top reasons you should go camping during the off-season.

Quieter Campsites

We’ll start with one of the most obvious benefits of camping during the off-season, the campsites are quieter. Most of us enjoy camping because it sparks our sense of adventure and allows us to be at one with the outdoors. Quieter campsites mean you can bag the best spot to pitch your tent and you can truly enjoy your trip to the countryside.

Stunning Scenery

Our campsite is nestled in a beautiful valley within Derbyshire, overlooking Combs reservoir so the chances are if you visit us at Combs Valley, you’ll be blown away by the view whatever the season. However, nothing beats autumn when it comes to stunning scenery, the Peak District landscapes look truly spectacular as the ground gets crisper and the leaves turn every hue of copper and gold.

Autumnal Walks

It’s no secret that if you’re an avid walker, then Derbyshire is the perfect place for you to visit. The Peak District is home to some of the UK’s best walks and the views are particularly breathtaking in autumn and winter. If you visit Derbyshire during the off-season, you will also benefit from fewer crowds allowing you to take in the views in all their glory. Some of our favourite walks in and around Combs include Kinder Scout, Ladder Hill and Combs to Chapel-en-le-frith.

Cosy Pub Trips

Now we all love a pub trip whatever the season and we’re lucky to be located near some amazing traditional pubs, but we’re sure you’ll agree that nothing quite beats stepping out from the Autumn cold into a cosy pub for the evening.

Just a short 5-minute walk away from the campsite in Combs is The Beehive Inn. With 4.5 stars on Google, this traditional pub offers local cuisine with both vegetarian and vegan options.

The Hanging Gate in Chapel-en-le-frith is another great option for traditional pub grub. With a friendly atmosphere, delicious food, and a great array of drinks, what’s not to love?

Different Activities

With Autumn comes a great selection of activities that aren’t available in summer and there are a number of amazing autumnal activities that you can get involved with, in Derbyshire.

We recommend visiting Calke Abbey any time of year however in autumn it is particularly spectacular. The auricular theatre is filled with hundreds of pumpkins in every size, shape and colour that you could imagine. It is the perfect place to take the kids on a crisp autumn morning or why not have a spooky photoshoot yourself.

Another great activity for all the family this autumn is The Chatsworth Bonfire and Fireworks. Wrap up warm and visit enjoy the traditional bonfire and stunning firework displays. Chatsworth House is also putting on a fright night this year to get you in the spooky spirit.

Above are just some of the top reasons to go camping during the off-season. We would love to welcome you to our all-year-round campsite this autumn/winter and if you’re not quite brave enough for a tent our site is also suitable for caravans and camper vans.
